Chewy Crispy Marshmallow Squares (Printable)

Classic chewy and crispy squares made with melted marshmallows and puffed rice, optionally topped with smooth chocolate.

# What You Need:

→ Base

01 - 6 cups puffed rice cereal (e.g., Rice Krispies)
02 - 4 cups mini marshmallows
03 - 3 tablespoons unsalted butter

→ Optional Chocolate Topping

04 - 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

# Steps:

01 - Line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
02 - In a large saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Add marshmallows and stir constantly until completely melted and smooth.
03 - Remove from heat. Immediately add puffed rice cereal and fold gently to coat evenly.
04 - Quickly transfer the mixture to the prepared pan and press evenly and firmly using a buttered spatula or wax paper.
05 - Melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Spread evenly over the pressed cereal mixture.
06 - Allow to cool at room temperature for at least 30 minutes or until set.
07 - Cut into 16 squares and serve.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • No oven required, no fancy skills, just a saucepan and five minutes of attention.
  • The contrast between crispy cereal and chewy marshmallow is genuinely addictive.
  • They come together so fast that you can have a homemade snack before store-bought would even thaw in your cart.
02 -
  • Don't skip the cooling time—marshmallow needs time to set, or your squares will fall apart the moment you bite into them.
  • Buttering your hands or using wax paper when pressing down saves you from a sticky disaster and keeps the treats from compressing too much.
03 -
  • Invest thirty seconds in melting the marshmallows fully—lumps ruin the texture and make even coating impossible.
  • The moment the marshmallow mixture touches the cereal, it starts to set, so work fast but don't panic; a few extra folds are fine.
