11 - 2 tsp ground cinnamon
12 - 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

→ Icing & Decoration

13 - 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
14 - 2–3 tbsp milk
15 - 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
16 - Purple, green, and gold colored sugars
17 - 1 plastic baby figurine (optional)

# Steps:

01 - Dissolve yeast and 1 tablespoon sugar in warm milk; let stand until frothy, about 5–10 minutes.
02 - Combine flour, remaining sugar, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon in a large bowl. Add softened butter, eggs, and yeast mixture, mixing until dough forms.
03 - Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in greased bowl, cover, and let rise in warm place until doubled, 1–1.5 hours.
04 - In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon.
05 - Punch down dough and roll into 10x20 inch rectangle. Spread butter over surface, then sprinkle cinnamon sugar evenly.
06 - Roll dough tightly from long edge into log, pinch seam to seal, and shape into ring. Place on parchment-lined baking sheet.
07 - Cover and let rise 45–60 minutes until puffed. Preheat oven to 350°F.
08 - Bake 25–30 minutes until golden brown. Cool completely on wire rack.
09 - Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth and pourable.
10 - Drizzle icing over cooled ring, then immediately sprinkle colored sugars in alternating bands of purple, green, and gold.
11 - Optionally, insert plastic baby figurine into bottom before serving.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The dough is soft and just sweet enough, with warm spices that fill your kitchen.
  • Rolling and twisting the dough feels playful, not stressful.
  • Decorating with those three bold colors turns baking into a small celebration.
  • Hiding the baby figurine makes serving it an event people remember.
02 -
  • If the yeast doesn't foam, your milk was too hot or too cold, start over or the dough won't rise.
  • Don't skip the second rise, it's what makes the cake light and fluffy instead of dense.
  • Let the cake cool completely before icing or the sugar will melt into a sticky mess.
03 -
  • Let your butter and eggs sit out for an hour before you start, it makes everything blend faster.
  • Brush the unbaked dough with an egg wash before baking for a glossy, bakery-style finish.
  • Buy the colored sugars in bulk online if you plan to make this every year.
